Our School
A Community Built on
Dignity, Responsibility,
and Mutual Respect

At the Deutsche Schule der Borrömäerinnen Alexandria, we see ourselves as more than just a place of learning — we are a living community made up of students, teachers, parents, and staff. Central to everything we do is our belief in the inherent dignity of every person. This belief guides our actions, our words, and even the things we choose not to do.

We treat one another the way we wish to be treated — with kindness, fairness, and understanding. We respect each person’s life, uniqueness, and cultural identity. Everyone is encouraged to contribute their talents and strengths to the community, and we honor each member of our school for who they are.

We strive to develop solidarity, sustainability, and responsibility, and commit ourselves to a culture rooted in non-violence, tolerance, justice, and peace. As a school community, we actively practise democratic rights and responsibilities and celebrate diversity in every part of school life.

EXPECTATIONS &
RESPONSIBILITIES

For Our Students

Our students are vital members of the school and their individual classes. A strong class community depends on mutual reliability and trust. Each student:

  • Contributes to learning by coming prepared, participating actively, and reinforcing what has been taught.
  • Ensures punctuality and takes responsibility for attendance.
  • Respects the authority of both teaching and non-teaching staff.
  • Treats classmates and teachers politely and with fairness, refraining from any form of discrimination based on appearance, background, clothing, or opinions.
  • Offers their talents and abilities to the school and broader community, whether in working groups, clubs, or voluntary initiatives.

For Our Teachers

Our teachers are essential to creating a supportive and enriching learning environment. Each teacher:

  • Demonstrates respect for every student's dignity, individuality, and cultural background.
  • Creates an inclusive classroom where all students feel valued and heard.
  • Maintains high professional standards in teaching, assessment, and communication.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to enhance the educational experience.
  • Engages actively with parents and the broader school community.

For Our Parents

Our parents are valued partners in their children's education. Each parent:

  • Supports their child's learning at home and encourages positive attitudes toward school.
  • Communicates regularly with teachers about their child's progress and well-being.
  • Respects the school's values, policies, and decisions.
  • Participates in school activities and contributes to the community when possible.
  • Models respectful behavior and promotes the school's culture of dignity and mutual respect.

OUR HOUSE RULES

Punctuality and Presence

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to academic success and community building. Students are expected to arrive on time for all classes and school activities.

Parents should notify the school promptly about any absences, and students are responsible for catching up on missed work. Patterns of tardiness or absence will be addressed through dialogue with students and families.

Classroom Management

At DSBA, we believe that successful learning happens best in a calm and focused environment.

Teaching and learning in motivated classes is a rewarding experience for both students and teachers. To make this possible, we place great importance on preventing classroom disruptions and ensuring smooth lessons.

Classroom Management was introduced at DSBA in 2017/18 as part of our school development program in cooperation with the Central Agency for Schools Abroad. Guided by the principle “Prevent disruptions and respond consistently”, we created a holistic approach that combines proven strategies with new ideas.

Focus on Prevention

We believe that prevention is the foundation of effective classroom management. By establishing clear expectations, routines, and positive relationships, we create an environment where disruptions are minimized.

Teachers invest time in building trust with students, teaching self-regulation skills, and creating engaging lessons that keep students motivated and focused on learning.

Classroom Order

A well-organized classroom supports effective learning. Students are expected to maintain their workspace, respect school property, and follow established classroom procedures.

This includes keeping materials organized, returning borrowed items, and contributing to a clean and orderly learning environment that benefits everyone.

General Conduct

All members of our school community are expected to treat one another with respect, kindness, and consideration. This includes appropriate language, respectful behavior in all school spaces, and adherence to our values of dignity and mutual respect.

We promote a culture where everyone feels safe, valued, and able to focus on learning and personal growth.

DISCIPLINE & EDUCATIONAL MEASURES

Disciplinary measures are educational tools that help uphold the school’s mission, ensure attendance, and maintain a safe, respectful learning space. The goal is always learning through understanding.
Rule violations are documented in the class register or student file.
When disciplinary action requires students to remain at school outside normal hours, parents are informed in advance. These measures are not applied on the same day they are decided.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Our school community thrives on the commitment of each member. Learning and growth go beyond academic achievement; they involve acknowledging and respecting each other’s uniqueness and contributions. Everyone — students, teachers, parents, and staff — shares the responsibility of treating one another fairly and kindly. We believe in facing challenges together, apologizing when necessary, and working as a team to solve conflicts.
This spirit of cooperation, support, and mutual respect is what makes our school a place where everyone can feel at home and empowered to succeed.
