TECHfeMENA an der Deutsche Schule der Borromäerinnen Alexandria
Anfang dieser Woche erlebte unsere Schule gewissermaßen einen wissenschaftlichen „Meteoriteneinschlag“: Die DSBA empfing 15 Wissenschaftlerinnen, Professorinnen und Professoren, Doktorandinnen sowie Studentinnen der Technische Hochschule Ulm.
Die Hochschule befindet sich in Ulm, einer Stadt an der Grenze zwischen Baden-Württemberg und Bayern. Auch wenn Ulm vergleichsweise klein ist, verfügt die Hochschule über eines der größten Förderprogramme für Frauen in technischen und naturwissenschaftlichen Studiengängen in ganz Deutschland.
Dieses Förderprogramm bietet internationalen Studentinnen besonders intensive Unterstützung: ein Orientierungssemester sowie persönliche Tutorinnen und Tutoren helfen dabei, sich schnell an Hochschule und Studium zu gewöhnen. Die Studiengänge sind konsequent zukunftsorientiert und vor allem technisch ausgerichtet, insbesondere in den Bereichen Ingenieurwesen, Elektrotechnik, Medizintechnik und Informatik.
Ein besonderer Vorteil besteht darin, dass unsere Schülerinnen direkt in dieses Fördersystem eingebunden werden. Bereits in den letzten beiden Schuljahren können Schülerinnen der DSBA dort Praktika absolvieren. Zudem stehen ihnen die Förderprogramme und Stipendien der Hochschule offen.
Besonders attraktiv ist die enge Zusammenarbeit der Hochschule mit innovativen Unternehmen: Viele Studiengänge werden als duale Programme angeboten. Das bedeutet, dass die Studentinnen parallel zum Studium in einem Unternehmen arbeiten. Inhalte aus der Hochschule werden unmittelbar praktisch angewendet. Gleichzeitig erhalten die Studentinnen eine monatliche Vergütung, und bei guten Leistungen bestehen sehr gute Chancen auf eine direkte Übernahme nach dem Studienabschluss. Damit reduzieren sich sowohl Finanzierungsfragen als auch mögliche Visaprobleme erheblich.
Wir haben dieses Programm bewusst an unsere Schule geholt, um unseren Schülerinnen diese außergewöhnliche Chance zu eröffnen. Die Betreuung in Ulm, die Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten sowie die hohe Qualität der Ausbildung sind herausragend.
Wir hoffen sehr, dass viele unserer Schülerinnen davon profitieren und sich für ein Studium in Ulm entscheiden. Eine erste Praktikantin hat sich bereits spontan gemeldet, und wir organisieren derzeit ihre Reise nach Deutschland, damit sie am Programm teilnehmen kann.

TECHfeMENA at the Deutsche Schule der Borromäerinnen Alexandria
At the beginning of this week, our school experienced what could be described as a scientific “meteorite impact”: the DSBA welcomed 15 researchers, professors, doctoral candidates and students from the Technische Hochschule Ulm.
The university is located in Ulm, a city on the border between Baden-Württemberg and Bayern in Germany. Although Ulm is comparatively small, the university runs one of the largest support programmes in Germany for women studying technical and scientific subjects.
This programme provides particularly strong support for international female students: an orientation semester as well as personal tutors help them to settle quickly into both university life and their degree courses. The programmes of study are consistently future-oriented and primarily technical, especially in the fields of engineering, electrical engineering, medical engineering and computer science.
A major advantage is that our students are directly integrated into this support system. Already during their final two years at the DSBA, students can complete internships at the university. In addition, they are eligible to apply for the university’s funding programmes and scholarships.
Particularly attractive is the close cooperation between the university and innovative companies: many degree programmes are offered in a dual-study format. This means that students work in a company alongside their studies, immediately applying what they learn in practice. At the same time, they receive a monthly salary, and strong academic performance offers excellent prospects for continued employment after graduation. As a result, both funding issues and potential visa challenges are significantly reduced.
We deliberately brought this programme to our school in order to offer our students this exceptional opportunity. The support structure in Ulm, the financing options and the high quality of education are outstanding.
We very much hope that many of our students will benefit from this opportunity and choose to study in Ulm. One first internship candidate has already come forward spontaneously, and we are currently organising her trip to Germany so that she can participate in the programme.
